Cemetery Procedures

Church Members may reserve Cemetery Space or Family Plots in advance by contacting a member of the Cemetery Committee and selecting space/spaces from remaining available spaces.

Reserved Cemetery Space or Family Plots require proper identification with approved cemetery markers.  Cornerstone should be installed within 60 days of receipt of Indenture of Internment.

The Cemetery Committee will assign Cemetery Spaces

Maintenance fee and Indenture for Interment will be issued by the Cemetery Committee.

A letter will be sent to former member for response to forfeit Cemetery Space or desire to retain for fee and the response shall be received within 90 days from date.

When Cemetery Space is needed, a member of the Cemetery Committee shall go with the family to pick out the space.

A member of the Cemetery Committee shall go with the funeral director to mark the grave.

One row at a time will be used, unless a Family Plot is in use or has been reserved.

If Plot is beside another church member's family, member is consulted before decision is made.  If questions arise over space assignment that cannot be resolved by the requesting party and the Cemetery Committee, then they will be referred to the Session for resolution.

If at anytime, a member who has previously reserved spaces determines the spaces are no longer required, these spaces should be reported to the Cemetery Committee for reassignment.

All moneys will be deposited in the Flat Branch Cemetery Trust Fund and interest accrued will be applied to maintenance of the Cemetery.

General Implementation:  Funeral directors will be responsible to clear all request with a Cemetery Committee Member.  No grave will be opened without prior approval of a member of the Cemetery Committee.  If no member of the Cemetery Committee is available, the Pastor will be contacted.

A vault or graveliner is required for all burials.

Any mistakes caused by failure of Funeral Director to follow this policy will be corrected at Funeral Director's expense.

The Church reserves the right to approve all monuments as to type and inscription.  No stone is to be put down without a Cemetery Committee Member being present to ensure that the stone is being aligned properly.

Deteriorated flowers will be removed.

To assist in grounds keeping, flowers should be placed on top of monuments whenever possible.  No shrubs, trees, etc. will be planted in the Cemetery.

These procedures may be changed, whenever necessary, by the Session and the Cemetery Committee will be notified.
