Carl Allen Byrd, Jr.
October 31, 1946 - March 05, 2010Mr. Carl Allen Byrd, Jr., age 63, of Cary, formerly of Lillington died Friday, March 5, 2010 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh of post operative complications. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late Carl Allen Byrd, Sr. and Maude Johnson Bryan Byrd. Allen graduated from Lillington High School in 1965. He continued his education graduating from Fayetteville Technical Community College with an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. He began his engineering career with Virginia Dry Dock and Shipbuilding. Allen sustained a back injury in 1968 that resulted in paraplegia. Subsequently, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Allen worked as a mechanical engineer in Raleigh for 17 years. He was loved and admired for his courageous efforts to live fully for himself and others beyond his physical limitations. The family is rejoicing in Allen’s recent profession of faith in Jesus Christ.
Memorial service will be conducted Monday, March 8 at 3 p.m. at Cary Alliance Christian Church, 4108 Ten Ten Rd., Apex, NC 27539 with Rev. Mitchell Gregory officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Allen is survived by his wife of 38 years, Julia Faye Cahoon Byrd of the home, two brothers, Bryan Byrd and wife Mary Brown of Angier and Kenny Byrd and wife Janice Arnold of Lillington, sister, Mary Jo Byrd of Birmingham, AL, brother-in-law– Dexter Cahoon and wife Brenda of Huntersville, NC
and twelve Nieces and Nephews.
